Tools Required:
  • Safety Goggles
  • 900-1200 psi Power Washer
  • Pump Up Sprayer
  • 4" Stain Brush
  • Tarps
  • Deck Stripper or Cleaner
  • Deck Brightener
  • Mineral Spirits

Start by removing all deck furniture and clearing the area. Apply a deck cleaner or stripper to all surfaces to be cleaned. Be sure to keep chemicals wet and never let dry completely. Clean the rails and spindles first, never stopping midway into a board because it can damage the wood. Smooth even strokes flaring out are best, like sweeping with a broom. Once finished with the rails begin on the floor. Cut in all floor area with a one foot wide strip. This will leave room to flare out on the ends. Strip full length boards. When the entire deck is stripped you will need to rinse fairly well. Next apply a deck brightener to neutralize the stripper and bring back the natural color of the wood. Let dry for 48 hours. Place tarps around all vegetation and other items around deck to protect from sealer. Apply the sealer to the rails first, back brushing while wet. Once finished with the rails begin sealing the floor. Seal full floor boards. When floor is complete seal all trim and fascia. Let the deck dry for 24 hours before allowing foot traffic. Use mineral sprits to clean any spills, drips, and tools before the sealer dries completely.
